When I first came into the world of texture painting, I went out and purchased every style of palette knife I could find. With zero knowledge of each knife's intended use, I dove right in and developed a basic approach that made sense to me. I would load them up with as much paint as possible and practice how to apply long, broad strokes. With the smaller knives, organic shapes like leaves and petals started to take place. My basic approach to the palette knife technique led to my style and love for texture and sculptural painting. I encourage you to use your palette knives and other art materials in whatever ways that come naturally to you.
